October 2026 Greenwood Community Events and Updates

Here are some community announcements affecting Greenwood this month. Topics in this email include:

Upcoming Greenwood Community Council Meetings
  • No GCC meeting in October. Since we met on a Saturday earlier this month there will not be a GCC meeting at the normal time (third Tuesdays) in October. Instead, for those of you living north of 85th St. (city council district 5) we encourage you to attend a forum for candidates for the open seat representing district 5 on the city council (see below for more info).
  • GCC will meet on Tuesday November 17 on transportation topics. Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) plans to send representatives to discuss (1) the Aurora Ave Project Corridor Planning Study and (2) recent changes to Greenwood Avenue by the Vision Zero Arterial Traffic Calming Project.
  • GCC Board meetings: We’re happy to note that the GCC Board had its first meeting as a newly elected group this week after over two years of operating with a volunteer organizing committee. We plan to meet monthly, usually on the fourth Tuesday of the month. We are calling this an interim board because we will revisit board membership at our annual meeting in March 2027.
Seattle City Council District 5 Candidate Debate on October 20

GCC was asked to help spread the word about a District 5 candidate forum on Wednesday October 20. This is part of a live taping of the Seattle Nice  podcast. The D5 debate will occur at the National Nordic Museum at 2655 NW Market St. (yes, this is not in District 5, but perhaps it is a good place to record a podcast). The debate starts at 6 pm and doors open at 5:30. More information is on the Nordic Museum website calendar.

Monthly Greenwood Community Council Connecting Neighbors Litter Pick-up – Last Sunday of the Month

Starting on Sunday, October 25th, Greenwood Community Council – Connecting Neighbors will host litter pick-ups every last Sunday of the month at 2pm. We will meet at Alice Ball Park, 8102 Greenwood Avenue N, and pick up trash for an hour or two. Pick-up supplies (grabbers, high-viz vests, trash bags, gloves) will be provided. Please join us! Note: There will be no litter pick-up in December.
